Hiking in the Smoky Mountains

Hiking in the Smoky Mountains

If you are planning a visit to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park this year, you may want to take off on a few extra hikes. In observation of the 100th anniversary of national parks, those who trek at least 100 miles in the park can earn a commemorative pin. It would be a great time to look for cabin rentals in the Smokies so you can relax after your long day on the trails.

There are hundreds of miles that you can hike throughout the Smokies, and making a decision on which trails to hit may be a difficult decision. There are several lists of trails available, and each lists the difficulty level and the length of the trail. A sample list is also available at the National Park Service website. The site also tells how to get your “Smokies Challenge Hike 100” pin.

Any Hikes Count

Any hikes count, regardless of how easy or difficult the trail. There are also two front country hikes that are available to everyone and two backcountry hikes limited to 20 people each that will be led by the Park Superintendent Cash. The park service website has details about those hikes, plus also has information about all of the hiking trails available in the Smokies.
